- Carol Ann Duffy was born in Glasgow in 1955 and grew up in Stafford. She has written poetry for both children and adults. Her adult collections are published by Picador (most recently Sincerity, 2018) and her Collected Poems for Children by Faber. Duffy lives in Manchester where she is Creative Director of The Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Shakespeare and Company is an English-language bookshop in the heart of Paris, opposite Notre-Dame. It has been a meeting place for writers and readers for almost seventy years. Over the past decade, the bookshop has embarked upon several new adventures, including a café, a literary festival, a writing contest, and a publishing arm. Before the pandemic, Shakespeare and Company hosted free weekly events—open to the public and available on the shop’s podcast—welcoming writers such as Zadie Smith, Don DeLillo, Carol Ann Duffy, Colson Whitehead, Leïla Slimani, Rachel Cusk, George Saunders, and Jeanette Winterson.
Shakespeare and Co says, ''We’re deeply touched that Carol Ann picked Shakespeare and Company as her favourite bookshop. She visited us just before Christmas in 2018 to read from her wonderful collection Sincerity. It was such a magical evening and had a real impact on everyone here. We can’t wait until we can welcome her back in person!'

Manchester Central Library

Manchester Central Library is the headquarters of the city's library and information service in Manchester, England. Facing St Peter's Square, it was designed by E. Vincent Harris and constructed between 1930 and 1934. The form of the building, a columned portico attached to a rotunda domed structure, is loosely derived from the Pantheon, Rome. At its opening, one critic wrote, "This is the sort of thing which persuades one to believe in the perennial applicability of the Classical canon". The library building is grade II* listed. A four-year project to renovate and refurbish the library commenced in 2010. Central Library re-opened on 22 March 2014.
